An inspector found five violations: no accurate thermometer in refrigerated storage facility no test kit to measure sanitization solution equipment components not kept tight/intact lack of suitable dispensing utensils and food not protected from potential contamination. An inspector found hand-washing sink no accessible to employees at all times food employee not using suitable gloves or hand-sanitizing methods when handling ready-to-eat foods (corrected) and poorly designed or maintained equipment.įinally, Al Aseel (8619 Richmond) fared just a little worse than its strip-center neighbor Cedars. Taco's La Bala #2 (5800 Bellaire) earned five violations during an inspection last week, including dirty vent filters and covers dirty non-food-contact surfaces (corrected) contamination of food not prevented by employee using suitable utensil to handle ready-to-eat foods (corrected) and ice machine not operated in a way that prevents contamination of ice.Ĭedars Bakery (8619 Richmond), which doubles as a small Lebanese restaurant, got written up for just three violations during a city visit last week. Here's a palate-cleanser: An inspector visited Le Peep (5750 Woodway) and didn't find any violations. An inspector acting on a complaint issued a citation after finding 18 violations, including food employee not using suitable gloves or hand-sanitizing methods when handling ready-to-eat foods (corrected on site) food employee not wearing effective hair restraint food stored in unclean or uncovered containers food not protected from potential contamination dirty floors or floor coverings potentially hazardous foods not held at proper temperatures ice intended for consumption used as a cooling medium (corrected) food spoiled or mislabeled and a new one for us, "employee not maintaining a high degree of personal cleanliness/not conforming to good hygiene practices." That last one reminds us of when our mom had to have the "deodorant talk" with our 11-year-old brother. Of the few places that got looks last week, Ruchi's (6410 Westheimer) had the worst time. Forcing Houston's inspectors and restaurant owners to keep dancing during the holidays would have been wrong, like mixing lean with Diet Sprite. So yum. There's not much to draw from in the city's health inspection records this week, and that's all right. It was breakfast… then also my lunch later. It was pretty good, but I gotta say that my favorite thing on the menu ever is the skillets! I got the Wanderer Skillet with fried eggs, cheese, potatoes, tomatoes, bacon and an english muffin. We also had the Texas-sized cinnamon roll - so decadent - balanced out with the parfait that’s also p good without the calorie guilt.Īnother new thing about Le Peep is they introduced a new rotating menu item that has a throwback dish and a brand new one - like this churro waffles with bacon ribs (double fried ribs - tastes like bacon!). There are also some yum fancy coffee drinks to try too - even some with more than caffeine in ’em. Like, watch out Jimmy John’s Le Peep is coming for your slogan. Also, Le Peep delivers the food freaky fast, y’all. We started with some waters and coffee for the table - because Le Peep hosts tons of business meetings, each table gets their own water carafes and coffee pots to insure minimal interruption from the wait staff. Patrons are encouraged to consider this information in light of their individual requirements and needs. The ginormous breakfast menu is pretty much the same as it’s always been - the owners said their loyal customers would raise hell if it changed too much - except for one thing: They got alcohol, beer and wine now, and…. MAKE IT GLUTEN FREE FOR 2.00 WITH A GLUTEN FREE ENGLISH MUFFIN OR TOAST Le Peep Houston is not a gluten free environment. <3įast forward to 2017 when Le Peep reopened at its new location in River Oaks. Then, on my dad’s 60th birthday for a TBT, they went for breakfast. Anyways, my dad managed it and was such a hotshot (he was regularly on the local news ? for some reason? I won’t pretend to understand the late ’70s Houston news cycle.) Anyways, they would go to breakfast there after late nights at da club. There was a club that was in the area called The Ritz (“It was like the Studio 54 of NYC” – direct quote from my mom). Side note: My PARENTS ate at Le Peep when they were my age (!!!!). The new, swankier Le Peep is now right behind Eloise Nichols and Bosscat Kitchen. But an expanding River Oaks District threatened that longstanding Le Peep on Westheimer until it found a new spot just down the street. Le Peep is one of those Houston things that us born-and-raised Houstonians take for granted, you know? It’s just always there for a casual breakfast or quick lunch.
